NY Fashion-Tech Accelerators You Should Know About
Startup accelerators help companies on their path to success, guiding the best budding entrepreneurs in strategy, growth, networking and fundraising. At the culmination of a set program, accelerators will have a demo day for investors, press and industry people to check out the most elite companies in the area. Every accelerator will have a different feel and focus, so it's up to founders to find the best fit and get in there. With the proliferation of fashion-tech companies, so too have we seen an upsurge in accelerators dedicated to the field.
XRC, being a startup itself, knows how to hustle. With backing from fashion industry heavyweights such as Parsons School of Design and Kurt Salmon top retail consulting firm, the access to the fashion elite may be unparalleled. Meetings with executives from Bulgari, Cavalli, Bloomingdales, Kay Unger and Michael Donovan are the norm. While still establishing themselves in the tech and investment communities, go here for the network and leave with serious contacts to catapult your business forward.
NY Fashion Tech Lab
NYFT has been positioning female entrepreneurs in the fashion-tech space for success since 2014. The program is backed by the Partnership Fund for New York City and Springboard Enterprises, along with some of the world's largest retailers. Less intensive than XRC, it's impressive roster sets it apart with an incredible network of proven entrepreneurs at your disposal along with investment expertise.
Friends of eBay
While not specifically focused on fashion, Friends of eBay is not to be overlooked as an incredible opportunity for entrepreneurs. It is slightly different than your average accelerator and probably should be more accurately described as an incubator as they will not give you cash or take equity from the outset. What they do offer is mentorship, networking events, access to partnership opportunities and beautiful space (never mind free massages) in the eBay New York offices in Flatiron. This is all in goodwill to support the burgeoning New York tech scene.
Simon Venture Retail Tech Accelerator
SVG is the largest retail real estate company in the world, yet innovative enough to invest in the future of retail and the shopping experience, making this accelerator immediately impressive and positioned for impact. Though not positioned at the heart of the tech community, this accelerator certainly has its edge. By associating with a company that literally houses every single luxury brand, generating over $60 billion in revenue and with 3 billion customers, you can test, analyze, network and grow smarter, faster and more cost efficiently (space wise) to say the least.
Full disclosure, this FemmBoss has participated in both XRC Labs and Friends of eBay, and have great admiration for the teams behind these powerhouses.
